Our DVA psychologists have availability now for both currently serving and former defence force members.
Eligibility for Psychology Services
The Department of Veterans’ Affairs, or DVA, provides current and former members of the ADF with fully funded mental health support for as long as it is needed.
You do not need to prove that your service is connected to your current mental health concerns. This is called Non-Liability Health Care. To hear the details and find out if you are eligible, watch this video by the Department of Veterans' Affairs.
What will DVA fund?
DVA will fund sessions focusing on a range of concerns, not just trauma or PTSD. You will be able to access support from our psychologists for:
-
Anxiety or stress: support for general or health anxiety, social anxiety, OCD or excessive worry.
-
Depression: support for low mood, low motivation, or a sense of disconnection or social isolation from friends or family.
-
Adjustment difficulties: including re-integrating into civilian life, relationship changes or workplace changes.
-
Addiction treatment or management: support for the use of substances, pornography, gambling or internet/video games.
-
Poor sleep: assistance to address underlying issues and support the forming of new health habits.
-
Anger management: emotional regulation strategies for those experiencing becoming quick to anger, aggressive communication or difficulties relaxing.
-
Identity: including self-worth, self-confidence, challenges relating to the change of job role, civilian re-integration, injury recovery, navigating relationships and LGBTQIA+ affirming support.
-
Neurodiversity: affirming support for the clients wanting to explore and manage the challenges of Autism or ADHD.

How do I access DVA psychology services?
Accessing psychology services through DVA is a straightforward process, and typically involves the following steps:
1. Obtain a DVA Referral
Make an appointment with your GP to discuss your mental health. Your GP will write up a DVA referral which will enable you to access an initial 12 sessions with one of our psychologists.
2. Contact Our Clinic:
Once you have your referral, contact our admin team to arrange an appointment. We will help you find a psychologist who is the best fit to support you and your goals. You can do this by phone or email.
3. Confirm Your Details
To get started, our admin team will ask you for:
-
your DVA file number;
-
your DVA card details (Gold or White Card); and
-
a copy of your referral.
4. Begin Your Treatment
At your initial session, your psychologist will:
-
conduct a comprehensive initial assessment;
-
understand your experiences and current concerns;
-
collaborate with you to set meaningful goals; and
-
develop a structured, evidence-based treatment plan.
