Anger Management

At True North Psychology, we’re here to provide non-judgemental anger management support by helping you learn effective strategies to manage your emotions and improve your relationships.

Understanding Anger

Anger is a normal human emotion. We feel can angry when other people don’t meet our expectations, someone important is hurt (or hurts us), when there is injustice, or something or someone gets in the way of our goals. We may also feel angry towards ourselves about past mistakes and shortcomings. Sometimes, it is unclear why we are angry, and it may not always be obvious in the moment that we are feeling this way.

At times, anger can feel overwhelming and lead to decisions that
impact your personal well-being. Persistent anger can lead to relationship strain, loneliness, fatigue, difficulties concentrating, and difficulties with sleeping.

At True North Psychology, we offer tailored individual treatment for anger management to help you navigate your emotions safely and build resilience.

Who is anger management for?

Our individual anger management services can benefit people of all ages, including:

Adults seeking to enhance their workplace interactions.

Parents aiming to create a calmer home environment.

Adolescents looking to improve their friendships, as well as tension with parents and siblings.

Individuals wishing to resolve conflicts in their relationships.

The Benefits of Anger Management

Understanding and managing your anger can lead to healthier relationships and a more fulfilling life. Our anger management services focus on:

  • Identifying Triggers: Recognising what provokes or exacerbates your anger helps you to understand how to best respond to stressful situations, for example unmet expectations or conflicts in values with others around you. Stress, previous trauma, difficulties understanding emotions, and lacking effective emotional regulation strategies can lead to difficulties with managing anger.

  • Developing Coping Strategies: We equip you with practical techniques to manage anger in challenging situations. This may include helping you to develop balanced ways of thinking, increase compassion, learn skills to de-stress, express anger in healthy ways, and improve tolerance and/or acceptance towards uncomfortable situations, thoughts and feelings.

  • Improving Communication Skills: Enhancing your communication can help you express your feelings without conflict, feel heard and increase your ability to get your needs met. This may include learning to differentiate between assertive and aggressive communication styles and identifying ways to optimise your communication with others, leading to stronger connections.

  • Enhancing Emotional Regulation: Learning to recognise and manage your emotions empowers you to respond thoughtfully rather than react impulsively.
