Psychological Therapy 

At True North Psychology our psychologists practice a range of different therapies. Typically the psychologist will use an individualised treatment plan that uses a therapy approach (or combination of approaches) that best suits your needs.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)

CBT helps you to understand the link between your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. It uses cognitive challenging and behavioural strategies to help you manage difficult to shift thoughts and increase activities that make your life worth living. 

 
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy is a skills based treatment designed to help you understand your emotions, cope better with distressing feelings and events, improve your relationships with others and balance your own needs and wants with those of others. Skills typically cover the areas of Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation and Interpersonal Effectiveness. ​

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness-based therapeutic approaches

Acceptance and Commitment therapy is a mindfulness based therapy that teaches you the skills to accept those things that are not within your personal control, and commit to action that improves your life. 

Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT)

Interpersonal Psychotherapy is a short term, attachment-focused therapy that is focused on resolving interpersonal problems and achieving a reduction in symptoms. The therapuetic relationship is used as a means to bring about change in the clients interpersonal relationships and increase social supports to better manage current distress. 

Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

Solution Focused Brief Therapy is a goal directed therapy that utilises the patients own skills and resources to make changes in their life to improve their current situation and make like meaningful​. It focuses primarily on the present and future to achieve patient goals, with only minimal discussion of historical content.
